Research overview
The luminescence of organic molecules often changes substantially between solution and the solid state. We study fluorinated tolane and bistolane derivatives, as well as bent π-conjugated molecules, to understand and control their solid-state photoluminescence.
We examine how fluorine substitution, donor–acceptor electronic balance, molecular geometry, crystal packing, and aggregation influence emission color and efficiency. These design principles also inform our exploration of luminescent films and related materials.
